FileMaker Compatibility
Known Issues with New Operating Systems
Current Version: FileMaker Pro 11 ( released
March 9, 2010)
This is the only
version of FileMaker recommended for use on the newest computer operating systems. Run all
FileMaker software updaters when using any computer operating systems listed below. Updaters
are available at FileMaker.com.
Also please ready the section below which applies to your computer's operating system version.
Windows 7 is compatible with FileMaker 10 and 11, but some issues have been reported (see FileMaker.com for details). Run all FileMaker updaters before installing FileMaker 10/11 on Windows 7. FM Server 10 is not certified to run on Windows 7. Windows 7 was released after FileMaker 10, so it could not be tested for compatibility prior to release! FileMaker 11 has fewer compatibillity issues.
Windows Vista was not certified with pre-2007 versions of FileMaker. Older files generally work, but run all FileMaker updaters before running FileMaker on Vista.
Early testing of Mac OSX 10.7 with FileMaker products indicates would be dangerous for anyone who relies on FileMaker for important data to make the change to Lion until after FileMaker Inc has announced full compatability. Older versions of FileMaker products which presently rely on Rosetta (see Mac OSX 10.6, below) for compatibility are expected to fail completely on Lion, and even the most recent update of FileMaker 11 has been reported to fail to install, or fail to run successfully on Lion's beta test versions.
If you rely on any FileMaker product, DO NOT install or upgrade to 10.7 Lion until after FileMaker Inc officially announces full compatability. — July 1 2011
Macs upgraded to OSX 10.6 have reported some issues, including slowed network response time for served FMP files, and they may require reinstalling FileMaker software after upgrading to 10.6. FileMaker 10's release date predated OSX 10.6. Run all FileMaker updaters to avoid most problems. Unsupported older versions of FileMaker sometimes fail to print on OS10.6.
OSX 10.6 is intended to run only on Intel-based Macs, so it does not include many of the files which assured compatibility with older hardward and software. If you need to use an older version of FileMaker or an old FileMaker Runtime, you may need to install Rosetta manually. Rosetta is no longer part of a 10.6 default system installation, but it can be added as an optional install if needed.
[FileMaker 11 runs natively in OS 10.6 and later. Always install the latest update of version 11.]
The release of FileMaker 11 adds important tools to FileMaker, but there are several behaviors which are inconsistent between versions 10 and 11. Please see FileMaker's official website and Knowledgebase reports for details. Files developed in FileMaker 11 may not be fully backward-compatible when opened by FileMaker 10.
